Neige Dunn in her first collegiate tournament, the MSU Denver women's golf team is tied for fourth after the opening two rounds of the season-opening Swan Invitational.
MSU Denver shot a two-round total of 45-over 321, putting them tied with Biola (Calif.) and three strokes behind third-place Colorado Christian. CSU Pueblo is second at 30-over, while West Texas A&M shot 6-over to give itself a comfortable margin heading into Saturday's final 18-hole round.
Dunn shot 74-79—153 at the 5,996-yard, par-72 Broadlands Golf Course, and is tied for 18
th in the 86-player field.
Isabel Botero and
Sydney Eye are among the players tied for 23
rd at 11-over 155, and
Vaijayanti Bharkhada is among the group tied for 33
rd at 15-over.
"We had a bit of a rough start but really improved, and we saw some really great things from the girls today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "Nearly everyone improved some in the second round, which is tough during such a long day. I'm excited to see what this group can do this year. They are competitive and are going to push each other all year."
True freshman
Lauren Mack, playing individually and not as part of the five-player scoring team, shot 6-over 78 in the first round.
"I'm so proud of Neige and Lauren," Ferguson said. "Neige had two good rounds in the 70s, and Lauren had a great first round."
