PITTSBURG, Kan. – Maya Ries broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles, while 400 runners
Naleia Sowell and
Allyssa Romero joined her in hitting provisional times for Division II Nationals, leading MSU Denver on Saturday at the Gorilla Classic.
Ries finished fifth in her specialty, in 8.71 seconds, surpassing the 8.74 she ran last week.
Meanwhile in the 400, Sowell placed seventh in 56.65 and Romero was ninth in 56.94. Only Romero, at 56.63, has run faster in the event at MSU Denver, and Saturday's marks were only the second and third sub-57.0 times by a Roadrunner.
Taylor Engram became the seventh fastest individual in program history in the women's mile, finishing 27
th in 5:13.66.
In the 800,
Audrynn Street and
Tanis Chavez both turned in personal bests and ran into sixth and seventh place, respectively among individuals in program history. Street was 22
nd in 2:19.0 and Chavez was 27
th in 2:20.16.
And in the shot put, school record-holder
Grace Solarin had her third-best effort all time, an 18
th-place heave of 12.02 meters (39 feet, 4 ½ inches).
For the men, freshman
Owen Clarke became MSU Denver's fifth-fastest ever in the 400 after placing 27
th in 49.84.
Anthony Martinez finished 20
th in the 60 hurdles in 8.42, while in the 800
Ty Schauer was 38
th in 1:56.26.
