GOLDEN, Colo. – Brandon Simpson broke his own school record in the shot put by nearly two feet and also turned in a season-best effort in the weight throw to lead MSU Denver indoor track & field performers who competed in two locations on Friday.
Simpson, competing at the Mines Pre-Conference meet, launched the shot put 14.23 meters (46 feet, 8 ¼ inches) to finish in sixth place while topping his previous best of 13.40 (44-9 ¾). That effort could be good enough to propel him into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's top 18, which would guarantee him the opportunity to compete in next week's RMAC Championships – it would have ranked 17
th prior to Friday.
In the weight throw, Simpson was fifth at 14.25 (46-9), just outside of the top league's 18.
Also at the Mines meet,
Grace Solarin turned in a quality effort in the weight throw of 16.38 (53-9), just off her school record, to place fourth.
Lushous Davis was sixth in the weight throw at 15.05 (49-4 ¼) and fourth in the shot put at 11.25 (36-11).
Jocelyn Korbe had a season-best long jump of 5.13 (16-10) to finish eighth, while
Taylor Weber was ninth in the event at 5.00 (16-5).
Meanwhile, at the Air Force Last Chance meet, top efforts for the men included twins Jordan and
Jonathan Duran finishing 10
th and 11
th, respectively, in the mile with times of 4 minutes, 38.19 seconds and 4:38.43, while
Elijah Garcia and
Charlie Geisler finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 in 1:58.39 and 1:59.39.
For the women,
Taylor Engram was ninth in the mile (5:28.50), while in the 800
Audrynn Street placed fifth in 2:22.27 and
Tanis Chavez was sixth in 2:23.94.
