SPEARFISH, S.D. – Naleia Sowell finished second in the 400 meters and anchored a school record-setting effort in the 4x400 relay on Saturday as the MSU Denver women recorded their second-best point total ever at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Sowell ran the 400 in 57.30 seconds, and
Allyssa Romero was fourth in the event in 57.68 as the Roadrunners scored 13 points in the 400 alone, contributing to an overall total of 35 that was good for eighth place. Only the 2014 team, which scored 39, has had more for the Roadrunners at the RMAC Indoor.
Romero ran the opening leg of the fourth-place 4x400, which also included
Audrynn Street and
Raygen Ivins ahead of Sowell. Their clocking of 3:58.34 topped the previous program best of 3:59.41 set by the 2014 team of Belle Kiper, Janelle Lincks, Judith Chavez and Breanna Hemming.
Additionally,
Grace Solarin broke her own school record in the shot put with an eighth-place effort of 12.74 meters (41 feet, 9 ½ inches).
Maya Ries was fourth in the 60 hurdles in 8.77, among the school record-holder's top times, and
Mia Salas was seventh in the mile in 5:05.80.
The Roadrunners' men finished tied for 11
th with 12 points, picking up points Saturday from
Anthony Martinez, who was third in the 60 hurdles in 8.21 seconds and the 4x400 relay of
Owen Clarke,
Kevin Tashie,
Marcus Green and
Ty Schauer, who finished sixth in 3:30.56.
