LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Four of MSU Denver's five golfers birdied the 18
th hole on Tuesday, capping a fifth-place finish at the two-day SMSU Classic.
Vaijayanti Bharkhada, who was second in the tournament with eight birdies, was among those who birdied the par-5 18
th and finished tied for eighth in the 71-player field with at 7-over-par 151. She shot 76 Tuesday after her first-round 75 and was a tournament-best even par on par-4 holes.
"The finish was really good," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "V had another really solid day today and a good overall finish for the event with a top 10."
As a team, the Roadrunners turned in a four-player score of 317 after an opening round 313 and finished at 630 (54-over-par).
Isabel Botero had three birdies on the back-nine Tuesday while finishing at 7-over for the day and 13-over for the tournament, good for a tie for 15
th place.
"Isa had a steady round today, too, especially to finish up," Ferguson said.
Sydney Eye tied for 22
nd after shooting 9-over on Tuesday for a two-day total of 17-over, and
Mackenzie Carpenter also scored for the Roadrunners on Tuesday at 9-over.
Neige Dunn, who joined Bharkhada, Botero and Eye in firing a birdie on the final hole, tied for 31
st in the tournament at 20-over. Carpenter tied for 43
rd at 26-over.
"Overall we have a lot of work to do," Ferguson said. "We got beat by teams that we shouldn't finish behind. It was a frustrating start to the spring."
