@MSUDenverWGolf: Roadrunners Post Program-Record Round, Bharkhada Ties for Ninth, at Southern Colorado Open

MSU Denver ties for fifth in team race

PUEBLO, Colo. -- MSU Denver shot a program-record score of 9-over-par 297 in the first round and Vaijayanti Bharkhada tied for ninth individually as the Roadrunners finished fifth Sunday at the one-day, 36-hole Southern Colorado Open.

MSU Denver shot 297 for the opening 18 holes, with Sydney Eye shooting a 1-under 71, Bharkhada shooting an even-par 72, and Isabel Botero and Mackenzie Carpenter both carding 77s.

Bharkhada shot 76 for the second round to finish at 4-over 148.

"V had another great tournament," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "She was super steady. Her mental game has come a long way."

As a team, the Roadrunners shot 312 in the second round to finish at 609, better than six of the eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams in the 12-team field.

The Roadrunners' previous best for 18 holes was a 298 at the RMAC Championships on April 21, 2015.

"We're so proud of the girls for setting the single-round scoring record," Ferguson said. "Syd had a personal-best round and 36-hole low as well. She has worked hard and I'm so happy for her."

Both rounds were played Sunday due to expected inclement weather in Monday's forecast.

Eye tied for 15th 6-over 150, Carpenter tied for 31st at 157 and Botero tied for 33rd at 158.

MSU Denver will return to action on April 1-2 at the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. At The Lodge at Ventana Canyon.

"The team is moving in the right direction," Ferguson said. "We still have some small things to improve on, but the girls are starting to see their hard work pay off. We are really proud of them."
