DENVER — The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon that MSU Denver men's basketball forward Brian Unachukwu was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performances over the weekend.
Unachukwu anchored the Roadrunners' defense in two conference games, leading the team with seven total blocks.
His impact was especially evident against RMAC-leading Fort Lewis, where he recorded a five-block performance, consistently protecting the rim and altering shots against one of the league's most efficient offenses.
Across the weekend, Unachukwu also contributed offensively, totaling 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal while shooting an efficient 5-of-7 from the field.
MSU Denver opened the weekend with a road win over New Mexico Highlands before dropping a hard-fought contest against Fort Lewis. In both games, Unachukwu's presence in the paint was a key factor, providing the Roadrunners with a defensive anchor and momentum-changing plays on the interior.
The Roadrunners will return home this week for a pair of RMAC matchups, hosting Colorado Mesa on Thursday and Western Colorado on Saturday, as they continue conference play with Unachukwu leading the way defensively.
