BOULDER, Colo. — The MSU Denver indoor track and field team opened competition at the Colorado Classic on Friday inside the Colorado Indoor Practice Facility, highlighted by a historic performance from freshman Andre Henry, who set a new school record in the men's shot put.
Henry delivered a standout showing in the ring, posting a throw of 14.43 meters to place 11th in a deep field of 26 competitors. The mark eclipsed the previous MSU Denver record and continued a strong debut season for the freshman thrower against top regional competition.
In the jumps, Isaiah Williams led the way on the men's side in the high jump, clearing 1.96 meters to finish seventh. On the women's side, Andrea Davis turned in a solid effort, placing fourth with a jump of 1.56 meters.
The Roadrunners saw multiple athletes compete in the horizontal jumps as well. Breauna Sorensen recorded a mark of 5.09 meters in the women's long jump to place seventh. In the women's triple jump, Chloe Meldahl finished second with a jump of 9.90 meters.
On the men's side of the triple jump, Kai Luna posted a mark of 13.82 meters, finishing second in the event.
MSU Denver was well represented in the throwing events throughout the day. Along with Henry's record-breaking performance, Brandon Simpson and Jacob Bowler competed in both the shot put and weight throw. Simpson led the men's weight throw group with a mark of 14.36 meters, while Bowler and Henry rounded out the competition for the Roadrunners.
For the women, Raziah Hyslop competed in both the shot put and weight throw, finishing 18th in the shot put with a throw of 10.90 meters and 15th in the weight throw at 13.75 meters.
The Roadrunners will wrap up the Colorado Classic Saturday afternoon, with the track events set to take place, as MSU Denver looks to build on Friday's momentum to close out the meet.
