DENVER -
Junior forward Taylor Nicholls (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) netted a pair of goals as No. 10 Metro State shut out Southwest Baptist (Mo.) 2-0 on Monday in non-conference action at Metro State.  The Roadrunners improved to 2-0 this season with the win, while SBU dropped to 1-1.  The Bearcats were coming off a 1-0 victory over No. 23 Quincy (Ill.) on Friday.

SBU was on attack for the first six minutes of the game, but Metro State gained control after that.

Nicholls scored her first goal just under 23 minutes into the game as teammate Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) gave her a through ball from the middle of the field, allowing Nicholls a 1v1 with a defender.  Nicholls finished from just inside 18 yards at the top of the box, beating the SBU goalkeeper.

Just seconds later, DeGeneres had a breakaway of her own, but SBU goalkeeper Paige Hemphill made a sliding stop to keep the score 1-0.  Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) had another scoring chance in the 27th minute, but missed high from inside the box.

Nicholls scored her second goal less than two minutes into the second half.  This time it was Erica Harrison (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) feeding her a through ball.  Nicholls drove in from the left side ahead of the defenders and again shot it past a charging goalkeeper from just inside the top of the box.

A strong defensive and possession-oriented effort from Metro State limited the Bearcats to zero shots on goal in the second half and a 14-5 shot advantage during that time for the Roadrunners.  For the game, Metro State out-shot SBU 22-11.  The Bearcats had just two shots on goal and both were stopped by Alee Seehausen (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View H.S.), making her second consecutive start in net.

Metro State will travel to Minnesota for two games next weekend.  The Roadrunners will play at Winona State at 7 p.m. on Friday and at Minnesota State at 11 a.m. on Sunday as they begin a four-game road trip.
