DENVER - Hayley Marsh (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) and
Tess Hagenlock (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) scored in a span of 19 seconds--just one minute and 16 seconds after falling behind 2-0--to force a 2-2 tie between No. 13 Metro State and No. 9 Fort Lewis on Sunday at home. The Roadrunners moved to 9-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC is now 9-1-3 and 6-1-2.
After 76 minutes of scoreless soccer, Fort Lewis scored two goals in less than two minutes to go ahead 2-0 with just under 12 minutes left in regulation. Sam Weiss put back a rebound off a miss by Nicole Schumacher at 76:37 and Emma Cannis ripped a shot from the top of the box exactly a minute-and-a-half later.
Metro State answered when Marsh scored at 79:23 to cut the lead in half, cleaning up a scrum in front of the net. Hagenlock scored just 19 seconds later after a Skyhawk turnover, firing a shot from the far-left wing over a leaping goalkeeper to tie the game.
But that was the final goal of the game as all four goals came in a span of three minutes and five seconds.
The Roadrunners had a great chance just under three minutes into the game when
Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) beat starting goalkeeper Amanda Snider in the box, but her shot was saved by Schumacher who came flying in to kick it away from the net. Snider was injured on the play and did not return.
Each team's goalkeeper made a diving save in a one-minute span between the 10th and 11th minutes. Fondy's blast from the far-left wing was stopped by a leaping and diving Amanda Raso, who replaced Snider. Metro State goalkeeper
Danielle Quigley (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) made a similar play on a shot from the center of the box by Jane Barden.
Neither team put together many scoring chances until the four-goal scoring flurry.
In the first overtime period, the Skyhawks had two chances late in the period, including a shot by Weiss from inside the box that missed left.
Metro State's best in the second overtime came with less than 10 seconds left when
Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.)'s 25-yard shot from the right wins was stopped by Raso.
For the game, Metro State held a 21-19 shot advantage. Quigley made four saves for the Roadrunners and Raso made five.
