Women's soccer: Highlands snaps Metro's seven-game winning streak

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. - New Mexico Highlands snapped No. 8 Metro State's seven-game winning streak on Sunday, winning 2-1 in Las Vegas, N.M. The Roadrunners fell to 10-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while NMHU improved to 5-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the RMAC.

Metro State's artificial surface woes continued, dropping the Roadrunners to 3-7-0 in their past 10 games not played on grass.

Brooke D'Onorfio opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the game on a free kick from 22 yards out to put NMHU ahead 1-0.

The Cowgirls took a 2-0 lead at 33:46 when Kelsie Roberts scored from inside the box after a pass from Crystal Schuder.

The Roadrunners dominated the game statistically, outshooting NMHU 19-8 and winning the corner kicks battle 2-0. But they didn't find the scoreboard until 76:14 when Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) drove up the right sideline and centered the ball from the endline to a wide open Maggie Rojas (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) in the center of the box as she cut the lead in half.

Metro had a couple of scoring chances in the final 13 minutes, but could not finish on any of those shots.

Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) made two saves for MSU.

The Roadrunners will travel to Colorado Mesa on Friday.
