DENVER – It was four years ago today, Oct. 21, 2016, that Michaela Smith tied the MSU Denver volleyball program record for service aces in the rally-scoring era with seven in the No. 23 Roadrunners' 3-1 win (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 28-26) against No. 22 Colorado School of Mines.
Smith, who also had 18 kills, is the only Roadrunner in the rally-scoring era to have seven aces in just four sets.
The Roadrunners, who would finish a perfect 18-0 in RMAC play during the regular season, improved to 17-3 overall and 12-0 in the RMAC with their 13
th straight win.
That performance highlights our latest installment of "On This Date in Roadrunners History," which looks back at the biggest accomplishments in MSU Denver athletics on that particular calendar day.

2017 – Santaisha Sturges had 24 kills, three service aces and 16 digs as the MSU Denver volleyball team won at Colorado Christian 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 15-6) to improve to 14-7 overall and 11-2 in the RMAC while playing its third five-set match in five days, including the second day in a row.
2016 – Elise Boisnard set the MSU Denver's women's soccer program record with the fastest goal to start a game, connecting after just 10 seconds, then Gricelda Gomez had two goals and an assist, and Reigna Banks added two goals, as the MSU Denver women's soccer team won 7-0 against UCCS.
2012 – Carlos Mendez had a goal and an assist as the MSU Denver's men's soccer team won 4-0 at Adams State.
*2011 – Julie Causseaux had 20 kills on .514 hitting and added six blocks (three solo) as the No. 11 MSU Denver volleyball team rallied from two sets down and won 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25, 15-9) at No. 22 Colorado School of Mines. MSU Denver improved to 18-4 overall and 10-3 in the RMAC.
2011 – Andrew Mejia had a goal and as assist as the No. 19 MSU Denver's men's soccer team won 3-0 at No. 23 Colorado School of Mines, improving to 10-5-1 overall and 8-4 in the RMAC.
2011 – Karisa Price scored both goals as the MSU Denver women's soccer team won 2-0 at Nebraska-Kearney, improving to 12-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the RMAC.
2008 – Bri Morley had 21 kills as the MSU Denver volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win (25-18, 19-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-10) at Regis to improve to 14-7 overall and 12-2 in the RMAC. It was the fifth time in eight matches that the Roadrunners had played, and won, in five sets.
*2005 – Anne Ormrod had a hat trick as the defending champion and No. 1-ranked MSU Denver women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win at No. 20 Fort Lewis, improving to 16-0 overall and 10-0 in the RMAC while extending its winning streak to 39. The Roadrunners' RMAC streaks moved to 41 consecutive wins and 53 games without a loss.
2005 – Phillip Owen had a goal and two assists as the MSU Denver's men's soccer team won 3-0 against UCCS, improving to 12-4-1 overall and 7-2 in the RMAC.
2005 – Julie Green-McFarland had 18 kills as the MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-1 (25-30, 30-27, 32-30, 30-18) at Colorado School of Mines, improving to 15-6 overall and 11-3 in the RMAC.
2003 – Jessy Roy had 14 kills and 13 digs and Devon Herron set 42 assists as the No. 4 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-12) at Colorado Christian, improving to 19-4 overall and 13-1 in the RMAC with its ninth straight win.
2002 – John Backstrom scored two goals as the MSU Denver's men's soccer team won 5-1 against St. John's (Minn.).
2001 – Jole Wilson recorded her second straight two-goal game as the MSU Denver women's soccer team won 3-1 at CSU-Pueblo.
2000 – Marina Bazana had 12 kills on .455 hitting and added 11 digs as the No. 25 MSU Denver volleyball team beat Fort Hays State (Kan.) 3-0 (15-8, 15-4, 15-9), improving to 18-6 overall and 13-2 in the RMAC.
1994 – Chelsea Terrell had 10 kills in the opener and added 18 kills and 12 digs in the second match as the MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 against both Alaska-Anchorage (15-3, 15-3, 15-5) and Colorado Mesa (16-14, 15-11, 15-10) on the first day of the Metro State Invitational.
1994 – Maher Kayali had two goals and two assists as the MSU Denver men's soccer team built a 4-1 lead and won 4-3 against Westminster.
1993 – Chelsea Terrell set the MSU Denver volleyball program record for service aces with 12 and she needed only three sets to do it as the No. 4 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (15-5, 15-5, 15-0) against CSU-Pueblo, improving to 21-2 overall and 7-1 in the Colorado Athletic Conference.
1990 – Bridgette Leisure scored two goals as the MSU Denver women's soccer team won 4-0 against Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.)
1988 – Becky Kofoed had 17 kills and 21 digs in the opening match, then had 14 kills and 15 digs in the nightcap as the No. 17 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 against both Augustana (17-15, 15-6, 15-8) and Texas Woman's (15-10, 15-10, 15-8) on the opening day of the Metro State Invitational. The Roadrunners improved to 17-5.
1985 – Catherine Guiles had 12 kills and four blocks (three solo) as the MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (15-10, 16-14, 15-7) against Colorado Mesa for its seventh straight victory.
1977 – The MSU Denver volleyball team that would go on to win an AIAW regional championship earned 2-0 wins against Adams State, Colorado Women's and New Mexico Highlands.
