DENVER – It all comes down to this.
The MSU Denver women's soccer team is shooting for a trip to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.
Win Thursday's 2 p.m. game at Regis and the Roadrunners are in. Lose, or tie, and they are (assuming Regis beats winless Black Hills State on Saturday) out.
"Postseason play is always something you are trying to accomplish, whether it's a spring season or in the fall, whether it's shortened by COVID or not," MSU Denver interim coach
Bonnie Young said. "We're always looking to play beyond the regular season no matter the circumstances. We've been taking it game-by-game and not looking too far ahead, and now it's to the point where we can say if we win, we are going to get to play in the postseason, which is pretty cool."
MSU Denver is 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC despite dealing with multiple injuries that left seven players unavailable for Sunday's near-upset of No. 7 UCCS.
"The last game a lot of people were called upon to do some different roles," Young said. "Most of them have done those things in training, because in training we're always trying to get repetitions and positional play for players, to see what they can do in different spots."
Katy Harris is among the Roadrunners who have made adjustments seamlessly, moving from outside back to a wide player in the attacking group.
As the Roadrunners try to get healthy, they can draw strength from the 2-1 loss to UCCS, a game that MSU Denver led for 50 minutes.
"It was us as a group being organized, and our players nailed it," Young said. "They put all the pieces together offensive and defensively and executed the plan. If we can continue to do that with some of the players we'll have back, it's going to allow us to put our best foot forward on Thursday."
