DENVER – The MSU Denver women's soccer team heads to Black Hills State for an 11 a.m. game Saturday to play a struggling team.
But the Roadrunners won't get caught up in Black Hills State's 0-8 record.
"Our focus all year has been to be the best us we can be," MSU Denver interim coach
Bonnie Young said. "That's all you really have control over. You can watch film and talk about your opponent a little, but the focus is on us, getting ourselves organized and trying to do what we do better."
MSU Denver is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
"We're still looking to finally have that scoring breakthrough and to get more goals from the run of play," Young said. "We got one against Westminster, but we're still waiting for that multiple-goal game."
Annie Rolf scored the goal last Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Westminster and leads the team with two this season.
Black Hills State has scored just two goals this season and has been shut out in four straight contests, but the Roadrunners still want to sharpen up defensively.
"We've worked on defending set pieces better," Young said. "Sometimes we've been on the wrong side defensive of a player, but more of what we've been giving up has been the other team being able to read the flight of the ball and attack it and we weren't. We've worked on dealing with flighted balls this week."
