COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in three seasons, MSU Denver's
Rylee Hladky has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Academic Player of the Year in volleyball.
Hladky is one of three Roadrunners to make the Academic All-RMAC first team. The highly-decorated outside hitter is joined by middle blocker
Ember Canty and libero
Abbie McCrimmon on the league's 14-player list.
Six other MSU Denver players were named to the Academic All-RMAC honor roll: setters
Delaney Eckhardt and
Amela Qershia, outside hitters
Maddie Lindsay,
Skyler Michael and
Maddy Williams, and middle blocker
Mikayla McClinton.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC first team, student-athletes must carry a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average from the most recently completed term, must have completed at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters at their current active member institution, and must be using a season of competition.
The same requirements apply for the Academic All-RMAC honor roll, with the exception of the minimum GPA, which is 3.30.
Hladky's list of accomplishments is a lengthy one. She's a two-time All-America first team selection (AVCA) who has been named All-America first team (2021) and second team (2022) by the D2CCA. She's also a two-time Academic All-America first team selection, which includes her being named the Division II Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year in 2022. She's a two-time South Central Region Player of the Year (D2CCA), a two-time RMAC Player of the Year, and a four-time All-RMAC first team selection (as well as a second-team choice in 2019). She's been named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week eight times in her career, including once this season. This is the fourth time she has been named to the Academic All-RMAC first team. She was the league's Academic Player of the Year in 2021, when she also earned the Summit Award for having the highest GPA among participating players at the RMAC Tournament semifinals. She's been an Academic All-District selection three times, as well as a three-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. Among active Division II players, she ranks ninth in career kills (1,435), 14th in service aces (157) and 70th in digs (1,245). She is one of seven players in program history to have at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. She's sixth in program history in kills, seventh in points (1,712), tied for seventh in service aces, 11th in digs (1,245) and 15th in kills per set (3.2).In the rally-scoring era (since 2001), she ranks 1st at MSU Denver in service aces, fourth in kills, fourth in points, and sixth in digs. MSU Denver's first two-time RMAC Academic Player of the Year in volleyball, she has a 3.88 cumulative GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.
Canty is on the Academic All-RMAC first team for the second consecutive season after being on the honor roll three times. She's a two-time All-RMAC first team selection (2021, 2023) and was also All-RMAC honorable mention in 2022 as well as All-RMAC second team in 2020. She was on the CSC Academic All-District last year. A five-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, including three times this season, she's Division II's active leader with 481 career total blocks and ranks eighth with 1.06 blocks per set for her career. She is the MSU Denver program's rally-scoring era leader (and is 10th in overall program history) with 71 career solo blocks. She is third in the RMAC and 11
th in Division II this season with 1.28 blocks per set, and is third and 15
th, respectively, with 128 total blocks. She's also third in the RMAC with a .349 hitting percentage (minimum three attacks per set). In league play, she was second in hitting percentage (.414) and third in blocks per set (1.15). A three-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner and a 2021 All-South Central Region second team selection, the chemistry major has a 3.67 cumulative GPA.
McCrimmon moves up to the Academic All-RMAC first team after making the honor roll list last season. She was All-RMAC second team this season while ranking fifth in the league in digs per set (4.0) and fifth in digs (414). In league play, she was third in the RMAC with 4.4 digs per set. She's the back-row leader of a team that's second in the RMAC with a .139 opponent hitting percentage. The two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner has a 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in management.
For MSU Denver's honor roll representatives, it's the third team receiving the honor for Eckhardt, Qershia and Williams. McClinton has made the list for the second time, while Linsday and Michael are honored in their first season of eligibility for the award.
