Roadrunners sweep javelin events, Clarke win's men's 200

GOLDEN, Colo. – Grace Solarin had a school-record hammer throw while finishing in the top five in three events, and Isaiah Williams became the second-best high umper in men's program history to lead MSU Denver on Friday at the Kit Mayer Classic.

Solarin heaved the hammer 48.03 meters (157 feet, 7 inches) to fifth place while surpassing her previous best of 45.61 by nearly eight feet. She was also third in the shot put at 11.51 (37-9 ¼), and fourth in the discus at 36.58 (120-0). Solarin moved up to 12th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the hammer.

Williams skied 1.97 meters (6 feet, 5 ½ inches) for fourth in the high jump, putting the freshman sixth on the RMAC performance list. Only an unknown competitor, also with the last name of Williams, has jumped higher for MSU Denver – that Williams went 1.98 meters in 1972.

MSU Denver won both javelin events, with Brandon Simpson leading the men with an effort of 47.74 (156-7) and Brooklynn Jones firing off a season-best 38.62 (126-8). Simpson's twin brother, Jacob, was third in the javelin at 43.64 (143-2).
